Meet BUDDY
(ID#912800)!!! This BEAUTIFUL 8 year-old boy entered the shelter as ...a
stray, having navigated the streets of NYC without being able to SEE or HEAR.
This special boy is believed to be blind and most likely deaf, as well. BUDDY
is an absolute volunteer favorite!! Every part of this 52-lb-dog says "ador-a-bull"! One shelter volunteer indicated the
following: “I am SOOOO in love with him. I took him out at the end of the
day, too (which I always reserve for my favorite dog!). Buddy has cloudy eyes
and holds his head like Ray Charles did - high – and sniffs rather than
looks. Buddy has a great spirit in spite of this all - friendly, nice, sweet!
He is AMAZING.” Folks, BUDDY has not hung on to life for all of this time
simply to have it taken away by the kill shelter. Please HELP BUDDY TO LIVE
& CONSIDER ADOPTING HIM! He may not be able to see…and he may not be able
to hear…but he can FEEL, and he can LOVE, and he WANTS (and deserves!) TO
LIVE. If you are not able to get to the shelter but would like to adopt,
please contact participating rescue groups to see if they can assist you: http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/about/apos/atoz.htm.
PLEASE SHARE!!! A volunteer writes: It
was love at first sight when I saw Buddy; this tall handsome boy, head held
high, calling attention to himself in the kennel. It
wasn't until I came over to meet him that I realized that he is likely blind,
or seriously vision impaired. He holds his head high, like a person who
should be wearing glasses and squinting, perhaps to capture whatever images
he can. I talked to him for a while, and put my hand in his kennel to leash
him. He nibbled at my hand gently, perhaps to smell and feel the person that
was approaching him. I leashed him easily and guided him outside. Buddy walks
very well on the leash, right by my side, and does appear to see
shadows/images as he approached a fire hydrant knowing exactly what to do on
it! He is super friendly, so happy to have someone with him, petting him and
loving him. Buddy is solid white with a patch of brown/black brindle on his
back, and little polka dots on his ears. He is so sweet and friendly, his
tail wagging nicely in response to my affection. He did not like being
tethered for photos - perhaps not being able to see and really understand
what I was doing. He and I bonded immediately, and as we walked he kept
looking up at me to make sure he knew where I was at all times. Buddy is as
gentle and sweet as can be. He may also have some hearing problems as many
white dogs do. To say that I have a major crush on Buddy would be an
understatement. This sweet, gentle soul needs a family who has the patience
to deal with his impairments and who will love him in spite of, or maybe
because of, his issues. He is ready to return that love 10x
over. If you are the special people that can offer this wonderful boy a
perfect place for him to live out his life, ask to meet him in Manhattan
today. |
