Dillon

Post Date: 2/21/11

Breed:  Pit/Dalmatian {mix}

Age/Sex:  2 yrs/Male

Dillon initially came into a local rescue as a stray.    Following several months of fostering,
he was adopted by a family with a young daughter, and another dog, a female Pit mix.  Six months later he was returned – Dillon is a friendly, happy dog, but he has an alpha personality, as did the other female dog.  The family tried to work with him, but didn’t have the experience to work with the 2 dogs, and they soon found it was too much to handle.

The rescue, who adopted him out, did not return the woman’s phone calls – I used to volunteer for the rescue, and had done the initial home visit for Dillon, so I was called.   I
felt bad that things weren’t working out, so I had them bring Dillon to a friend’s place,
where he is being kenneled.

Dillon is assertive but not aggressive.  He absolutely adores people.    He came back to us
with a chip on his shoulder,   because the family was basically rewarding him for bad behavior - example, if he would not let go of the leash, they’d give him food.  After several weeks of obedience, where he has some structure, he is much happier boy.   I take him on runs, and have been working him off leash with hand signals.  He loves playing laser fetch!

Dillon is in a foster, but is not doing well being kenneled – he needs to be in a home. He thrives with personal attention, and the isolation is so unfair to him.  He goes crazy for about 10 minutes when I go to visit him, but then settles down and is a great dog to work with.
He is so in tune to watching me, I think he’d be a good obedience or agility dog.

He does need an experienced dog owner, that won’t let him take charge of the household.    Have to say, I’d be cautious with other dogs in the home, unless it was a
good personality fit.  He’s great with cats that are dog savvy.

UTD on everything.  Microchipped and Neutered
