Joy

Post Date 6/7/11

Breed:  Schnauzer

Age/Sex:  11 yrs/Female

A little more info on Joy here if you want it:  She hears nothing.  I am putting drops in her ears daily to help dissolve the inch of build-up in hopes of her regaining some hearing once that has cleared out.  She sees nothing once the lights are out, but when there is light, she sees shadows.  Her nose and her tail still work very well!  She has a level 3 heart murmur, so can’t have any surgery.  She loves to play and loves to snuggle and have her belly rubbed.  She sleeps a lot so she gets a bath once a week because she smells sweaty.  She is very tolerant of having her feet dried off at the front door when she comes back in.  She loves to walk with me.  As long as I keep just a little tension on her leash so she knows I’m still there, she walks like a seeing dog.  She is very good about not going potty in the house if you keep her on a schedule and take her out regularly.  She’s not too fond of dry dog food, but loves the moist stuff and almost any human food we have offered her.  She loves her vegetables too!  We have 5 cats, and she sniffs at them when they cross paths, but she doesn’t bother them.  She shows no interest in other dogs when they meet on our walks.  She makes no noise except to snore.  She loves to ride in the car – just lays down on the seat and goes to sleep.

Update on Joy:  I have been using the ear drops and she is starting to regain her hearing.  She hears whistles and loud sharp noises.  The report of heart murmur came from the vet that saw Joy before we took her.  Our vet reports no sign of a heart murmur.  She still sleeps a lot and loves to go on walks.
