I am the dog coordinator at a no
kill shelter on Eglin AFB, FL. we have a 2-3
yr old deaf Amer Bulldog mix that someone left on
our door step. He is a neutered male, all white, totally deaf. We
don't know much about him. He is friendly, seems ok w/older kids.
He's very strong and loves to play, but doesn't like to stop playing,
grabbing your ankles or arms. We have strickly
volunteers at the shelter, so Andy (that's the name I gave him) is not walked
by everyone because of his strength. I've had a trainer come to the
shelter a few times to help us, but again with different people every day
he's not getting the consistent training he should be and he seems to be
wanting more attention and showing his wants. He is otherwise healthy, weighs
about 70 lbs and is very handsome. He does know some sign language.
He is current on all shots, is heartworm neg and on
heartguard. He eats Science diet. We
believe he is housetrained as he doesn't soil his kennel much. We
haven't tried him around cats or other dogs, but when other dogs walk by him
he doesn't get aggressive. He's good with strangers. Andy walks good on the leash, but we can't
run with him as he doesn't want to stop and will grab at our legs. He
sits, shakes hands and lays down, all done w/sign language. He's such a
sweet boy, but I'm getting nervous about his grabbing at people to get
attention. I can't find a Bulldog rescue around the FL Panhandle. ANY
help you can give me would be appreciated. . I think he would be a
wonderful family pet with someone who could handle him. I don't feel we're
equipped to help him at our shelter.
