I spent some time with Dee
Dee yesterday. It did say on her
temp test to not keep her out in the sun as she has sensitive skin. It
said on her adoption card that she'd make a good agility dog. And I
think you will see a quick glimpse of her skills in one of the videos I took
of her. She jumped on and off of the lady's lap. She is
full of energy. She did chase after the ball. But
someone mentioned she's partially deaf, which I agree with. I think she
can hear some things. Dee Dee was marked for euthanasia because
of the dog-dog test. I looked up her
report. They finally did a dog-dog test (which is typical of the
shelter to wait after the dog has gone kennel crazy), and she received an
F. All the note said was something like they took her out of her kennel
and she started growling. Go figure. Well, as
I remembered from the previous weekend, Dee Dee had been kenneled with a
somewhat unfriendly American Bulldog (Momma, who became available for
adoption). My friend tried to pet Momma, but Momma would snap at her
hand. I tried to give Dee Dee a treat, but Momma put Dee Dee in check
and grabbed it away from her. Dee Dee was VERY submissive. I was
actually trying to get info about Momma to try and help her, but Dee Dee was
the one that caught my attention then. I thought she was so sweet and
very submissive. So I don't know how the shelter could've failed her on
her dog-dog test when she was actually kenneled with a dog the previous
weekend. I had my
friend walk Dee Dee by the rabbits to see her prey drive. She
completely ignored the rabbits and put her back to them. You'll see it
in one of the videos I took of her. But my cell phone battery was dying,
so I only got like 6 seconds of that. I took the rest of that encounter
with my camera, so you'll see it in the pics I attached. We did try to
get her to see the rabbits. So she was just staring at them. Here is what someone else
wrote about Dee Dee from yesterday: "I think Dee Dee the deaf cattle dog is super
cool just very easily taken to a high arousal, with pretty intense barrier
frustration with the one dog we tried. Granted this was a big female pit with
a hard stare, but Dee Dee might do well in a less stimulating foster home or
a home where she can retreat to her own space." |
