Hi there. My name is Zoey. I am a 2 year old Boxer mix who desperately wants to be part of a forever family that will love me and treat me with kindness. I am deaf, but that's not what's so sad about my story. I was originally rescued by the shelter from an abusive family. My former owner was forced to sign papers that he would not own a pet for 2 years. After a long search, it looked like my luck had changed. I was adopted into what I thought would my forever home and I'd be surrounded by love. Not to be. If I had any luck at all, I think it would be bad. The shelter got a call from the child in the house....not my "mom" (I use the term loosely because a real mom wouldn't have let me end up so neglected), but the kid, who told the shelter I had to come back. So, back I came. When I walked in, the whole office stopped talking. I couldn't hear this, but their lips stopped moving. I could tell they were horrified at how I looked. I was covered in scabs, my ears were infected, and my skin was hot to the touch and beet red. Every rib I have was sticking out. I was bathed gently and lovingly (finally) and started on a course of antibiotics and antihistamines. I am doing really well, so my search for a new forever family has resumed. Please, if you can't give me the love and attention and care I deserve, don't even bother. I can't go thrum the heartache again of finding myself in an abusive situation. Since I'm deaf, I'm considered special needs. What I really need is love. And yes, that's pretty special. The shelter is open 7 days a week. Daily hours are 10-3, M/W hours are 10-6. Out of state adoptions are welcomed. Woof.
